Rhein Cargo to deliver 9,000 pipes for pipeline

Rhein Cargo has been contracted as the logistics partner for the creation of a forest-lake landscape on the site of the disused coal mines in Hambach and Garzweiler (Germany).

A 45 km long pipeline composed of 9,120 pipes is being built to fill the future bodies of water. The special pipes, 8 and 12 m long with a diameter of 2.235 m, will arrive by sea from Turkey and Algeria in Brake in northern Germany, from where Rhein Cargo will transport them by rail to Grevenbroich in the Rhine district of Neuss.

Each block train will be loaded with 40 pipes. Hybrid locomotives will provide the traction. The first pipes arrived in Grevenbroich by train a few days ago. The project is scheduled to run for three years. (ben)
