Reusable boxes to ship pharmaceuticals
In Germany, the express service Trans-o-flex recently delivered the millionth shipment in a reusable box for the pharmaceutical manufacturer MSD. At the beginning of 2021, MSD was the first pharmaceutical company in the human and animal health sectors to switch to a newly developed reusable box system for shipping its products to all customers.
According to MSD, this product has helped it cut its carbon footprint by more than half and its water consumption by as much as 80% compared to the previously used disposable cartons. In addition, the already low breakage rate of products has been reduced by another third.
The boxes, which Trans-o-flex offers its customers under the name Tofecobox, can be used for transports with active temperature control at 2-8 °C and 15-25 °C as well as without temperature control.
Four different sizes are available: the smallest measures 30 x 20 x 16 cm, the largest 60 x 40 x 34 cm. In partnership with Smart Container Loop, Trans-o-flex's IT service has also developed new software to guide and control the boxes. (ben)
