Renewable electricity powers HGK sites

HGK Logistics and Intermodal now sources 100% of its electricity from renewable energy.

HGK managing director Markus Krämer said that the fact is certified under TÜV Rheinland’s Renewables Plus programme. HGK’s green energy supply will reduce the company’s carbon footprint by 1,523 t of CO₂ annually. The switch also supports Cologne’s goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2035, he added.

The electricity is supplied by Stadtwerke Duisburg and comes from European hydropower and wind energy, according to Torsten Hiermann, the head of sales and marketing at Stadtwerke Duisburg. In addition to this green-energy initiative, HGK already integrated two battery-electric 40 t trucks into its Ladenburg site in 2024, powered by an on-site photovoltaic system, with plans to further expand the e-truck fleet.
