Railway hits record levels
Container rail traffic in the Port of Barcelona grew by 46% in H1/2021, recording a total throughput of 161,735 teu. With this significant increase, railway's share reached a record level of 16.1%, which is mainly due to the commitment that large retailers and industrial companies are making to transporting their goods by train, the port authority said.
113,326 vehicle units were transported by rail in H1/2021, an increase of 63%. Total train traffic in the Port of Barcelona experienced an all-time high, with 1,059 circulations made during the month of May, exceeding the previous record of 1,020 that was reached in July 2019. (ben)
