Questions after DHL crash in Vilnius

DHL flight QY5960 from Leipzig (LEJ) to Vilnius (VNO), operated by a B737-400 converted freighter of the Spanish company Swiftair, was destroyed yesterday morning, 25 November 2024, when it collided with terrain while approaching the airport of the Lithuanian capital. One pilot was killed, the second and two passengers survived injured, the Aviation Safety Network learned.

According to the Lithuanian police, the investigation into the cause of the crash will take some time. The police also did not want to rule out the possibility of an attack.

As a reminder: after a fire at the DHL freight centre in Leipzig in July, German security authorities warned of “unconventional incendiary devices” in parcel shipments, and suspects were arrested in Lithuania earlier this month after several parcels caught fire in postal depots. (ah)
