Promoting belly cargo in Baltics

Air Baltic and Riga Airport (RIX) have signed a land reservation agreement for building a new Baltic cargo hub at the Latvian capital’s airport.

Covering 6,000 sqm, the terminal will be the largest dedicated air cargo handling facility in the region. Construction is planned to begin in late 2022 and should be finished by early 2024. The project is financed through banks and operated by Baltijas kravu centrs – the Latvian carrier’s cargo handling subsidiary.

Laila Odiņa, chairperson of the board of RIX: "The volume of belly cargo forms a significant part of cargo carriage at the airport, and Air Baltic is the largest carrier of this type of cargo. The construction of a new cargo handling centre will help increase the volume of cargo handled at RIX and will benefit both parties." (ah)
