Profits down for Swiss Post
Swiss Post posted a disappointing result in 2019, generating a group profit of CHF 255 million, CHF 149 million down from 2018. At CHF 450 million, operating profit (ebit) was CHF 55 million or 11% lower than in the previous year and thus testifies to the great challenges Swiss Post is now facing.
The example of Post Logistics shows that companies must first invest before achieving a profit. The increase in parcel volumes (+7.3%) requires investments in the three-digit million range to build new parcel hubs. Operating profit (ebit) amounted to CHF 128 million last year, a decline of CHF 17 million compared to the previous year.
Here, Post Logistics' result was negatively impacted by the sale of a group of subsidiaries, provisions and the subsequent costs of the robbery of a cash transport. In contrast, operating income rose by CHF 44 million to CHF 1.708 billion. (mw)
