Preparations for pre-Christmas period in UK

In UK, DP World has inaugurated a storage space of 6,000 sqm dedicated to empty containers. The measure is meant to increase storage capacity during the critical pre-Christmas season. This move comes at a time when dwell times at terminals in UK have increased.

Ernst Schulze, UK chief executive of DP World, said: “The new GBP 3 million (EUR 3.5 million) empty park is part of DP World’s ongoing GBP 40 million (EUR 47 million) investment this year at Britain’s second largest container terminal. (...) We now have 25% more storage capacity at Southampton than before.”

In H1/2021, cargo volumes handled at DP World’s two UK ports amounted to a total of 1,883,000 teu. Southampton and London Gateway have both been awarded freeport status as part of Solent Freeport and Thames Freeport, respectively. (cd)
