Port of Lübeck feels the impact

All in all, the Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft mbH (LHG) lost around 8% of its throughput in H1/2020 compared to the strong first half of 2019. However, the picture is more diverse. While trucks and trailers declined by 10%, the drop of cargo volumes in the general cargo, heavy cargo and finished vehicles segments was limited to about 4%.

As to be expected for a port on the Baltic Sea, Lübeck's general cargo throughput comprises primarily forest products, iron and steel.

Managing director Sebastian Jürgens summed up H1/2020: “On the whole, we weathered these extraordinary times fairly well.” Despite the pandemic, the expansion of the infrastructure continues. The second building phase at the Skandinavienkai, the largest terminal, is completed. The forest products terminal is operatiing at full capacity, and the third building phase has already begun.
