Port of Brussels only partially hit

It is not surprising that the waterway traffic at the Port of Brussels felt the impact of the global health crisis in the first half of 2020.

Thus, clean traffic fell by 13% for the first six months of 2020 (while 2019 was a record year for Brussels port activity), showing a loss of 351,000 t and clocking in at 2.4 million t. Overall traffic saw a smaller drop (-4%) thanks to the good performance of transit traffic (+ 31%).

After the months of March, April and May were particularly affected, the month of June saw a spectacular increase compared to June of the previous year, with an increase of 11 % compared to 2019.

All of the sectors present at the port of Brussels experienced a decline in the first half of 2020 with the exception of food and agricultural products.

Five hours' sailing from the port of Antwerp via a canal that has two locks between Brussels and Antwerp, the port of Brussels offers 6 km of quays. (mw)
