PIL names two LNG dual-fuel vessels

Pacific International Lines (PIL) has named its first two 14,000 teu LNG dual-fuel container vessels, “Kota Eagle” and “Kota Emerald”, marking a significant milestone in its fleet renewal programme.

These vessels are the largest in PIL's fleet and the first to fully run on liquefied natural gas (LNG), reflecting the company’s commitment to sustainability. Both ships will operate on PIL’s West Coast Central and South America Service 2 route.

CEO Lars Kastrup highlighted the vessels' role in reducing carbon emissions and enhancing operational efficiency through advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and the internet of things.

The vessels are part of PIL’s strategy to transition to net-zero emissions by 2050 and are the first of four 14,000 teu LNG dual-fuel ships, with another eleven vessels on order for future delivery. (pb)
