PIL names fourth 14,000 teu LNG dual-fuel vessel
Singapore-headquartered Pacific International Lines (PIL) has named its fourth 14,000 teu LNG dual-fuel container vessel, "Kota Embun", at a ceremony in Shanghai. The vessel is the first in PIL’s fleet to feature a bow windshield, designed to improve aerodynamics and reduce fuel consumption by 1% annually.
Part of PIL’s "E" Class series, the new unit aims to reflect the company’s commitment to sustainable shipping. Built by Jiangnan Shipyard, the vessel will operate on PIL’s Far East to West Coast Central and South America Service 2 route, enhancing efficiency and reducing emissions.
PIL CEO Lars Kastrup highlighted the milestone as part of the company’s broader fleet renewal, with 14 more LNG dual-fuel vessels set for delivery. Since 2022, PIL has ordered 18 newbuilds, strengthening its modern, environmentally-friendly fleet. (ah)
