PCT in India in operation

In India, the new Patenga Container Terminal (PCT) will be operated by the port authority Red Sea Gateway Terminal International, a Saudi Arabian company. The Bay Terminal project will enable the processing of ships with a capacity of 6,000 teu and a draft of 10-12 m. Located at the Bay of Bengal and on the mouth of the Karnaphuli River, the 584 m long terminal has three quays.

Three facilities - a 1,225 m long container terminal, an 830 m long container terminal and a 1,500 m long multipurpose terminal – will be constructed in this area. The total length of the three terminals will be 3.55 km.

The Chittagong Port Authority will be responsible for the construction and operation of the multipurpose terminal, while the other two terminals will be constructed and operated under a public-private partnership arrangement. The proposed port will receive investments from Singapore Port Authority and Dubai’s DP World, and the World Bank has also earmarked USD 50 million for the project. (cd)
