Oversized Down Under

Aircraft charter solutions provider Chapman Freeborn recently managed an unusual cargo operation in Australia. The cargo, which weighed 92 t and consisted of 17 t pieces 15 m long, was manufactured in Germany and sent to Western Australia on an expedited basis, due to its high value and importance.

Because of the over-dimensional length of the cargo, a Boeing B747-400F nose loader was required. External equipment comprising two main deck loaders and two cranes was used to load and offload the cargo, and visitor permits were arranged for the trucks to receive the cargo direct on the apron.

The consignment bypassed the terminal by exiting the airport through the emergency access gate, with Chapman Freeborn organising that the customs authority cleared the consignment electronically.
