Novel locomotive from the Urals

Sinara-Transport Machines (STM) has identified a site for the production of mainline diesel locomotives with an asynchronous traction drive. The engines will be produced at the facilities of Ural Locomotives in Verkhnyaya Pyshma, in the Russian Sverdlovsk Region.

It is a novel, fully Russian main-line freight two-section diesel locomotive 2TE35A, Sinara said. The locomotive was developed by the STM Holding’s own engineering services.

Engine components such as control systems and traction asynchronous electric drive will be produced by the Traction Components company, which is also a part of the Holding.

Ural Locomotives is a JV of STM and Siemens, which also produces other Sinara locomotives including the dc electric 2ES6 and 2ES10, and ac electric 2ES7 locomotive series. (ben)
