Not only China, also Vietnam

The Christmas business in the Atlantic region is under threat not only because of high transport costs and a lack of freight capacity in China, but also due to current lockdowns in Vietnam. Supply chain management experts at Setlog, a provider of SCM software with headquarters in Bochum and offices in Cologne and New York, expect a significant upturn from Easter 2022 at the earliest.

According to their data, products from Vietnam will be delayed by up to 25 days on average, and only 17% of all deliveries will arrive on time at all. That compares with 70% in 2019 and around 38% in 2020.

In their analysis, the experts focused mainly on the ocean freight sector. The transport time for containers from the Far East has increased by nine days on average, and steel boxes will be on the road for up to 52 days in 2021. (sh)
