Night-time barge movement at Singapore port
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has approved the night movement of line-towed container barges at Pasir Panjang Terminal (PPT) following a successful four-month trial with six barge operators.
Previously, night movement for line-towed container barges was only permitted at Brani and Keppel Terminals, where navigational traffic is less complex than around PPT. This initiative aims to improve efficiency, reduce turnaround times, and enhance connectivity with regional ports.
It will allow barges to operate between 19.00 h and 6.30 h, increasing container handling capacity. Safety measures, including pilotage and traffic monitoring, will be enforced. (pb)
