Next LNG carrier in operation

The Knutsen shipping company from Norway recently held the official naming ceremony of the ‘Ravenna Knutsen’, a medium-sized LNG carrier for the transport of liquefied natural gas (LNG) on a small and medium scale. In September the ship carried out its first LNG unloading operation at a terminal in the port of Ravenna (Italy).

The vessel, 180 m long, 28.4 m wide and 19.4 m high and flagged in the Canary Islands Special Registry (Spain), is chartered by the energy company Edison. Its total capacity comes to 33,300 m3 of LNG in its three bilobar tanks, "built with an alloy of steel and 9% nickel, thus offering great resistance in cryogenic environments," according to the South Korean shipyard Mipo, where the ship was built in 2020.

No ship can operate without its safe haven on land. The Ravenna LNG terminal, with the capacity to store 20,000 cbm and to manage more than 1 million cbm of LNG, is a part of a development programme run by Knutsen and its partners. (sh)
