New system to levy road tolls in Switzerland
The Swiss federal council is planning to introduce an EETS-compatible procedure in Switzerland. To this end, the system for levying tolls/heavy goods vehicle tax (LSVA) must be technically upgraded and a legal basis for authorising service providers to record the kilometres covered must be created.
The EU has already introduced uniform standards with the electronic collection of road tolls (European Electronic Toll Service, EETS), an interoperable device for levying tolls throughout Europe.
In Switzerland, however, vehicles registered in Switzerland and abroad are still recorded separately and with different tools. (ben)
