New straddle carrier at HHLA

Hamburger Hafen und Logistik (HHLA) has renewed its straddle carrier fleet at the Container Terminal Tollerort (CCT).

Eight new units have started operating with hybrid drive: the straddle carrier stores surplus energy in a high-performance lithium-ion battery, which saves over 30% of fuel per operating hour compared to diesel-electric previous models.

This new way of transhipping containers in a more environmentally friendly way between ship, yard, rail terminal and truck gate saves 200,000 litres of diesel and 530 t of CO2 emissions per year. (lh)
