New logistics platform for cocoa butter

Haesaerts Intermodal has opened a subsidiary in the port of San Pedro (Ivory Coast). The Antwerp (Belgium)-based logistics operator now controls the entire cocoa butter logistics chain, from the production region to the final destination in Europe.

The new move is in line with the strategy of CEO Luc Haesaerts to focus on complex and vulnerable products requiring special attention and care as well as advanced technological solutions. With a cost of around EUR 6,000 per ton, cocoa butter is very expensive, making control of the entire logistics chain of paramount importance.

Today Haesaerts Intermodal transports 100 tank containers of cocoa butter annually between the production regions in Ivory Coast, Ghana and Cameroon and the chocolate factories in Europe. The aim is to increase this traffic to 300 tank containers per year. (mw)
