Moving more than 9,000 containers on one ship
"ONE Trust", a vessel in the fleet of The Ocean Network Express, recently docked at Southampton after sailing from Pusan in South Korea.
The DP World team in the British port exchanged some 9,315 containers, including 5,824 discharges, 3,473 loads and 18 re-stows, taking 86 hours to complete. This call broke by 13% the previous terminal record of 8,213 moves set by the "MOL Truth" two years ago.
According to DP World’s Port operations director Steve McCrindle, the port of Southampton is the "most productive port in UK". Indeed, DP World has invested GBP 2 billion in its UK business over the last ten years and is planning to invest a further GBP 1 billion in the deep water ports of London Gateway and Southampton. (lh)
