MOU to drive modal shift
PSA Antwerp and Combinant have signed an MOU to enhance connectivity between PSA’s deep sea terminals and the Combinant rail terminal in the port of Antwerp, promoting a modal shift from road to rail.
The integrated service will link PSA's Noordzee and Europa terminals with Combinant’s rail connections, including routes to PSA’s Duisburg gateway terminal and European logistics hubs such as Milan, Barcelona, and Vienna. Plans include introducing electric trucks to reduce emissions further.
The collaboration supports PSA's strategy of expanding multimodal, sustainable, and cost-effective transport solutions, reinforcing the port’s intermodal capabilities. Additionally, it aims to integrate maritime and continental volumes on trains, optimising efficiency and capacity.
The partnership reflects a shared commitment to achieving a significant modal shift and reducing environmental impacts along the logistics chain, the companies said. (pb)
