More revenue for Gebrüder Weiss

Austria-headquartered transport and logistics company Gebrüder Weiss (GW) has reported its audited results for the pandemic year 2020. Revenues amounted to EUR 1.77 billion, a surge of 3.7% compared to 2019 (EUR 1.71 billion).

The e-commerce boom produced a 29% increase in home delivery consignments (1.37 million consignments in 2020), while sales in air and sea freight generated EUR 470 million, a significant improvement of 23.7% compared to 2019 (EUR 380 million).

In 2020, the company continued its digitalisation strategy by launching a new customer portal "myGW". The online platform is currently operating in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Slovakia and Czechia. A rollout into further countries is planned for this year.

Moreover, in the air and sea freight division, GW added locations in Germany and entered markets in Poland, South Korea, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand. The company's international network now comprises a workforce of 7,400 employees (full-time equivalent) at 170 locations in 35 countries.

All in all, the logistics company invested more than EUR 70 million in expanding and extending its terminal network and in IT infrastructure, as well as in acquisitions. CO2 neutrality by 2030 is a another goal for the group. (sh)
