More rail capacity to open up new markets

Fenniarail has ordered two more Vectron electric locomotives from Siemens, which are scheduled to be delivered in early 2026. The Finnish private rail operator put the first Vectron into commercial service in late autumn 2023.

Currently, Fenniarail’s locomotive fleet is fully utilised. The electric locomotives will add more capacity and enable the company to expand its portfolio with new routes and shifts. So far, the carrier has mainly focused on transporting raw timber for the forest industry and sawn timber from production plants to ports. With the additional locomotives, it will expand its services to other industries, Fenniarail said. (ben)
