More lorries use Swiss rolling motorways

The rolling motorway (ro-mo) between Freiburg (Germany) and Novara (Italy) is well positioned in the market. From June to September 2023, the Swiss ro-mo operator Ralpin transported almost 12% more trucks through the Swiss Alps by rail than in the previous year. The volumes also exceed those of the same months in the pre-pandemic year 2019.

70% of all Ralpin trains reached their destination with a delay of less than 60 minutes. This figure is slightly lower than in 2022, but still represents a good level of cross-border freight transport punctuality on the Rhine-Alpine corridor between Rotterdam and Genoa.

In other news, it was reported recently that Alexander Muhm, a member of the SBB Group’s executive board, is joining Ralpin’s board of directors, while Nicolas Perrin remains the board’s chairman. (ben)
