More logistics for BMW in China

Rhenus Automotive opened a new production site in Shenyang, China, at the end of April to manufacture front and rear axles for a new BMW vehicle model.

In the future, the automotive logistics division will act as a Tier 1 supplier for BMW's Dadong plant, which is located around 10 km away. Rhenus will also be in charge of procuring all upstream components, quality management and control of the global supplier network.

At the opening of the plant, Rhenus welcomed representatives from the BMW Group as well as the German Consul General and the mayor of Shenyang, a city with over a million inhabitants. The start of axle production was preceded by an 18-month preparatory phase.

In addition to setting up Rhenus Automotive's first Chinese production facility, this also included the creation of an Asian holding company in Shanghai to manage the overarching processes and further development of Rhenus Automotive in China.

In total, the site, which is operated exclusively for the BMW Group, covers an area of around 20,000 sqm. Rhenus Automotive is represented at 67 locations worldwide. (sh)
