More cargo per truck saves fuel and costs

By deploying a long truck and loading it with the maximum amount of intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) supplied by transport packaging manufacturer Schuetz, the German freight forwarder Haaf reduces the number of delivery journeys for its customer BASF by 50%.

The ecoliner carrying the IBCs travels regularly between Schütz's headquarters in Selters and BASF in Ludwigshafen. The long truck can accommodate 112 empty IBCs in total. Because they are cube-shaped, the IBCs can be stacked so neatly that they make optimal use of the cargo hold. The long truck helps to save fuel, costs and CO2 emissions within BASF's supply chain, both companies said. (ben)
