More and more CNG and LNG trucks in Europe

Trucks powered by CNG (compressed natural gas) or LNG (liquefied natural gas) emit up to 15% less CO2 than Euro 6 diesel trucks. With biogas, they are almost climate-neutral.

Overall, 14,191 CNG trucks were deployed in the EU and the EFTA states of Iceland, Norway and Switzerland last year. This is above 20% more than in 2018, and almost double the figure of 2015, according to the most recent statistics published by the European "natural & biogas vehicle association" (NGVA Europe).

By the end of 2019, 150 CNG trucks were registered in Switzerland (+15.4% compared to 2018), and in France there were even 5,100 CNG trucks (+30%).

The number of LNG trucks registered in Europe also grew from 5,054 to 9,563 in 2019, this corresponds to a plus of 89.2% and an almost seven-fold increase compared to 2015. (ben)
