MOL & Kambara: green shipping pact

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and Kambara Kisen have signed a basic agreement for a time charter of a newbuilding, a methanol dual fuel bulk carrier, scheduled for delivery in 2027.

The vessel will primarily use e-methanol produced from recovered CO2 and hydrogen using renewable energy sources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional vessels.

It will transport biomass fuels and grain between various regions. MOL aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and plans to have 90 LNG/methanol-fuelled vessels by 2030. The partnership with Kambara Kisen supports its decarbonisation efforts through the ownership and operation of innovative vessels. (pb)
