Modal shift in Strasbourg
SNCF Réseau and Voies Navigables de France (VNF) are working with the port of Strasbourg to advance modal shift initiatives encouraging local industries to consider rail and river transport as alternatives to road haulage. These efforts, initiated in 2022 as part of the Laboratory for Rhine Multimodal Innovation (LIMR) project, have identified 360,000 t of freight suitable for modal shift.
Following a review meeting in Strasbourg on 7 November, LIMR will transition into the Rhine Multimodal Innovation Club (CIMR), a platform fostering collaboration among shippers, transporters, and logistics providers to develop tailored multimodal solutions.
The first CIMR meeting is scheduled for 6 March 2025, aiming to solidify sustainable, low-carbon logistics chains in the region. (pb)
