Metrans to extend its Pure network

The rail carrier will integrate the inland terminals Duisburg in Germany and Indija in Serbia into its CO₂-free transport system on 1 September 2023. The ports of Wilhelmshaven (Germany), Gdansk (Poland), Rotterdam (The Netherlands), Trieste (Italy) and Rijeka (Croatia) will also join the HHLA Pure network.

Since 2021, all rail transport from/to Hamburg, Bremerhaven (both Germany) and Koper (Slovenia) has been CO₂-free. The expansion was examined by TÜV, an association which tests, inspects, and certifies technical systems, during this year's audit and approved without objection.

Hence, the exact kg values have been calculated for each relation, determining how much CO2 is saved per teu. The aim is to ensure that all rail transports are decarbonised, the HHLA affiliate said. (ben)
