Maersk switches to Panama Canal Railway

Due to currently low water levels in Gatun Lake, Maersk vessels that usually sail through the Panama Canal will now use the Panama Canal Railway to transport containers across Panama. The changes affect the OC1 service on the trade route between Oceania and the Americas.

The Panama Canal Railway is already a standard part for several of its other connecting services, Maersk said. To ensure that the cargo arrives at its berthing windows in North America as scheduled, the OC1 service will stop calling at Cartagena on the OC1 northbound rotation. Customers routing cargo through Cartagena will be able to use alternate networks. (ben)
