Maersk facility with 120 loading bays

A specialised Maersk cross-docking facility is located on Maersk’s Maasvlakte II terminal in the heart of the port of Rotterdam. It is scheduled to come on stream at the end of 2024 and will speed up cargo flows from arrival on a vessel to the point of sale – notably in the Benelux countries, Germany, and France.

After the containers are discharged from an arriving vessel, the products can be unpacked, transloaded onto conventional trucks and dispatched to their final destination in hours.

The cross-docking facility will speed up a part of the supply chain where others are losing days, in some cases, Maersk said. With its priority-flow offering it will be a question of hours to get cargo from a vessel on the road. (ben)
