Luka Koper cuts port dues

The port of Koper (Slovenia) is halving port dues for cargo ships until the end of September 2020. Jernej Vrtovec, the country's infrastructure minister, announced the measure at the initiative of the Luka Koper and the Slovenian Ship and Freight Agents Association during his recent visit to the port of Koper. The minister stated: “The port of Koper is our window to the world. It is important not only for Slovenia, but also for other hinterland countries."

Furthermore, the port authorities recently chose the contractor for the construction of a 100 m extension of the operational shore, which is, together with the storage areas, a project worth EUR 45.6 million. Moreover, the necessity to build a second rail track between Koper and the hinterland was emphasized, because as much as 60% of the cargo arriving or leaving the port is shifted by rail. The project is expected to be completed in 2025. (mw)
