LTG to test alternative route to Ukraine

The Lithuanian railfreight company LTG Cargo has launched a test run from Kaunas Intermodal Terminal (KIT) in Lithuania to Ukraine via Poland. This is the first time in LTG’s history that freight from Ukraine is to be transported by rail to Lithuania without going through Belarus.

The outbreak of the Russian war in Ukraine has disrupted traditional logistics chains. The purpose of this project is to restore some parts of the links.

This route will only be implemented on the narrow EU gauge, which runs from KIT through Poland to a terminal on the Ukrainian border. This means that if the project proves to be a success, some freight can be transported to Kaunas without having to reload it or change the gauge, LTG Cargo said. (ben)
