Lower Austria launches fixed-wing drone

A project team from the Aerospace Engineering degree programme at the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt, which has been working on a drone called "Trogon" since 2017, has reported the completion of the "spectacular and flawless maiden flight".

Team leader Markus Trenker: "The advantage of the fixed-wing drone is that the wing itself generates lift. We can thus fly higher, faster and further and also transport larger loads."

In the process, the fuselage is designed in such a way that the manned aircraft can transport Euro pallets weighing 500 kg over up to 1,500 kg.

For take-off, it only needs a level surface, such as a meadow during the maiden flight in Weikersdorf in Lower Austria, which predestines it for relief missions in disaster areas. Trogon is expected to reach a speed of 350 km/h. (ah)
