London Gateway aims for UK’s top port position

DP World has launched its GBP 350 million all-electric fourth berth at London Gateway with the arrival of its first vessels, marking a major step in sustainable logistics.

The 430 m berth is supported by Europe’s largest all-electric quay cranes, straddle carriers, and automatic stacking cranes. It will increase the port's capacity by over a third and improve supply chain efficiency with faster turnaround times.

The expansion has created 200 permanent jobs and supports DP World’s GBP 1 billion investment plans for two additional berths, aimed at positioning London Gateway as the UK’s largest container port within five years.

Part of the Thames Freeport, the new facility aligns with DP World's commitment to net-zero operations by 2050 and strengthens connectivity to both national and international logistics networks. (pb)
