Logistics real estate a winner

According to an analysis published by BNP Paribas Real Estate, Germany’s logistics markets grew very strongly in the Corona pandemic. With a record 9 million sqm (incl. owner-occupiers) in use in 2021, the previous year’s figures were exceeded by 32 % and the ten-year average by as much as 40%.

"Even the previous best from 2018 was topped by another 22 %," explained Christopher Raabe, managing director and head of logistics & industrial at BNP Paribas Real Estate. He pointed to the continued boom in e-commerce and the reorganisation of supply chains and a significant expansion in new construction activity.

All major logistics hubs were able to increase their turnover. Frankfurt came out on top, more than doubling the previous year's figure (875,000 sqm; +108 %). Frankfurt is followed by Hamburg (641,000 sqm; +31 %), Berlin (609,000 sqm (+41 %) and Leipzig (505,000 sqm; +50 %). Düsseldorf shows the strongest improvement with 303,000 sqm (+109 %). But turnover also rose noticeably in Munich (347,000 sqm; +46 %), Cologne (334,000 sqm; +55 %) and Stuttgart (148,000 sqm; +7 %). (sh)
