Locomotives for Mongolian rail line

Progress Rail has entered into an agreement with Bodi International, an engineering, procurement and construction contractor, for the purchase of 16 locomotives. The loco type EMD SD70ACeLW will support operations on the Tavantolgoi-Gashuunsukhait railway project.

The nearly 250 km railway is expected to be completed by 2022 and will be operated by Tavan Tolgoi Railway, owned by the Mongolian government.

The new locomotives are designed to meet the requirements of the 1,520 mm gauge region. The incorporated 16-cyclinder EMD 710 Series engines are compliant with International Union of Railways and EU Stage IIIA emissions standards. Progress Rail anticipates deliveries to begin in 2022. (ben)
