Loco drivers: major generation change ahead
They always sit in the front row, have a company vehicle with up to 10,000 horsepower, and yet their journeys are eco-friendly. We are referring to ÖBB’s more than 4,400 locomotive drivers.
15 new drivers have recently completed the training to become "universal train drivers" - it is already the 100th course of this kind since 2013. For many years now, a new 52-week course has started every fortnight.
Around 450 training places are available for 2023. By training young locomotive drivers, the railway company is not only promoting the next generation but is also preparing for a major generation change in the driver's cabs that will take place in the near future. (ben)
