Less to pay for in port of Hamburg

Deferring charges is currently one of the guiding principles in Hamburg (Germany). In order to ease the current burden on the shoulders of the port industry, ocean carriers, inland shipping companies as well as port skippers may request a moratorium for port dues payments for the months of April, May and June.

This deferral of lease and fees can also be granted until 31 December 2020. In the case of berth occupancy charges, particularly environmentally friendly vessels are to be relieved to a considerable extent. The decisive factor here is the so-called tier-level of the ship, an international emission classification, classifying rebates from 100% to 20%.

The senator for economic affairs of the free and Hanseatic city of Hamburg, Michael Westhagemann, and the senator for finance, Andreas Dressel, both underlined that an informal written application to the Hamburg port authority is all that is required for a deferral of leases and port fees. (mw)
