King Willem-Alexander tours Duisport

Willem-Alexander, the King of the Netherlands, visited Duisburg Port (Duisport) on Tuesday, 14 November 2023, to show his appreciation for the port’s efforts to develop a European hydrogen network with the Port of Rotterdam and other partners. Duisport CEO Markus Bangen highlighted the collaborative approach to creating sustainable hydrogen production and usage solutions.

The visit was part of a tour hosted by North Rhine-Westphalia's prime minister, Hendrik Wüst, showcasing hydrogen projects in the region. It coincided with the arrival of a pioneering bio-ammonia shipment at Duisburg's North Rhine Quay, signifying the potential of ammonia as a hydrogen carrier and energy source.

Additionally, Duisport signed a joint study agreement with the Port of Amsterdam and a MOU with the ports of Bilbao, Amsterdam, and Duisburg to explore a European hydrogen corridor. This partnership and planned infrastructure demonstrate Duisport's commitment to accelerating the energy transition and developing sustainable hydrogen supply chains in Europe. (pb)
