K + N nets Zalando contract
The fashion retailer Zalando has contracted Kuehne + Nagel (K + N) to provide and manage an inbound distribution centre in Halle an der Saale (Germany). The 35,000 sqm facility will go into operation in autumn this year.
As many as 100 million articles per year will be processed there after the start-up phase, and goods will be distributed to Zalando's logistics sites.
Jan Bartels, Zalando’s vice-president of customer fulfilment and logistics, said: "The new distribution centre will be advantageous as we will be able to remove even small quantities quickly in order to increase stocks at our logistics locations according to local demand. Our customers will ultimately receive their orders faster." Around 350 jobs will be created in Halle in the mid-term. (mw)
