Jaxport in upbeat mood at the end of fiscal year

The Jacksonville Port Authority (Jaxport), one of Florida’s major container ports, achieved record volumes in containers, vehicles and overall tonnage during the fiscal year ending 30 September 2019. Altogether, the port handled almost 1.34 million teu, a rise of 5% in comparison to 2018.

Jaxport takes pride in setting container volumes records for four consecutive years, as part of the uptick of cargo streams in ports on the US East Coast. The port also handled more than 696,000 vehicles. In total, 10.9 million t of cargo passed the port last year, up 4% over 2018.

Dry bulk cargoes (which include non-containerised commodities such as limestone and gravel) increased by 19% over 2018 (880,000 t), while breakbulk cargoes, including wood pulp, grew by 7% to 935,000 t moved. Liquid bulk cargoes, including molasses and corn syrup, went up by 4% to about 380,000 t. (fd)
