Jaxport berths enhanced

The Jacksonville Port Authority in Florida (USA) has completed another phase of a USD 104 million public-private quay enhancement project in the SSA Jacksonville Container Terminal (SSA JCT) on Blount Island, adding more than 210 line metres of deepwater berthing space.

The final phase of the overall undertaking in 2022 will see another 213 line metres of berths added, as well as the completion of a federal project to deepen the Jacksonville shipping channel from 12.2 to 14.3 m. In the end, Jaxport will thus feature two re-reconstructed 1,200 ft container berths capable of handling two post-panamax vessels simultaneously.

The berths currently have three electric-powered 100-gauge container cranes in use; this figure will then rise to ten. The SSA JCT will then be able to handle 700,000 teu annually.

Jaxport CEO Eric Green said that “these projects maximise Jacksonville’s logistics advantages and bring jobs and business to northeastern Florida.”
