Italy: another 4,000 trucks to shift to rail
After successful test runs, Transport operator Metrocargo Italia has launched an inbound and outbound intermodal service for glass packaging producer Verallia between Piedmont, Lombardy and Veneto.
Metrocargo’s rail-road link between Borgo San Dalmazzo (Cuneo) and Valdaro (Mantua) enables the company to save 2,366 t of CO2, 45% of emissions and 4,000 truck journeys.
Metrocargo Italia has been operating in Borgo San Dalmazzo since 2018 and offering intermodal services between Italy and France through Ventimiglia since 2012. Its fleet includes a full range of 20’, 30’ and 45’ swap bodies. It has a staff of about 400 employees and generated a total turnover of EUR 78 million in 2021. (ben)
