Intermodal terminal hits new record

Baltic Rail Gate (BRG) craned its hundred thousandth container already in mid-October - earlier than ever before. In the last two years, this threshold was reached only in November: in 2019, the subsidiary of Lübecker Hafengesellschaft (LHG) broke the mark for the first time; in 2020, it repeated this performance despite a corona-related slump.

Since the opening of the intermodal terminal in 2003 - it is located directly at Skandinavienkai in the port of Lübeck - BRG has handled around 1.5 million units. A new annual record is expected in 2021.

According to LHG, shift operations will soon be expanded to cope with the increasing volumes. From 2023, the six tracks, which have been extended by 140 m, will provide sufficient capacity. (ben)
