Interasia Lines sets a new course

Interasia Lines, an active buyer in the market for second-hand ships in 2021 and 2022, is expanding its fleet. The Singapore-based shipping line has declared options for three 3,055 teu container vessels at Japan Marine United (JMU).

In April the Tokyo-founded liner already signed an order with Nihon Shipyard (NSY) for three 3,055 teu container ships. The first vessels are expected to be delivered in January 2025, while the latest option for another three vessels of the same design is set to be delivered in July 2025. All six containerships will be built at Japan Marine United Corporation (JMU). These newbuild contracts in 2022 mark the first time Interasia Lines has gone to the newbuild market in the company’s 55-year history.

The line currently operates 21 vessels with a total capacity of about 48,000 teu. The carrier runs services throughout the intra-Asian as well as the Indian Subcontinental markets. Since 2010 Interasia Lines has enhanced its service coverage around the region to 20 owned offices with a working staff of about 500 employees. (sh)
