Increased capacity for railfreight traffic

Deutsche Bahn is investing EUR 1 billion in small and medium-sized infrastructure measures by 2030. It expects to have completed 40% or 138 of the 355 planned projects by the end of 2025. The programme aims to quickly achieve positive effects on capacity and punctuality for passenger and freight transport.

Projects in combined transport terminals, train formation facilities and new sidings are intended to improve the quality of production processes in railfreight services.

Deutsche Bahn says that it is expanding the network for 740 m long goods trains to give them more space to overtake. The measures are being financed by the federal government's climate protection package and Deutsche Bahn's own funds. (ben)
